Sts. Philip and James

Two apostles of Jesus: Philip, who brought Nathanael to Christ, and James the Less, who led the Church in Jerusalem and wrote the Epistle of James. Tradition holds that James was thrown from the Temple and then clubbed to death. Their feast replaces the traditional anniversary of the dedication of the Basilica of the Apostles in Rome.

Why it matters for your parish: A Feast celebrating two apostles — excellent content for reflecting on the diversity of callings within the Twelve and the early Jerusalem Church.
