St. Barnabas

A Cypriot Levite and one of the earliest Christian missionaries, Barnabas was the one who vouched for Paul in Jerusalem when the apostles were afraid of him. He accompanied Paul on his first missionary journey and later traveled with Mark. His name in Aramaic means "son of encouragement."

Why it matters for your parish: The "encourager" of the early Church — Barnabas's willingness to trust the converted persecutor Paul is a beautiful model of Christian mercy and discernment.
