St. Alphonsus Liguori

An eighteenth-century Italian lawyer who left a brilliant legal career to become a priest, founded the Redemptorists, and became one of the most prolific Catholic writers in history. His Moral Theology shaped confessional practice for centuries and his pastoral compassion toward sinners was revolutionary. He is the patron saint of moral theologians and confessors.

Why it matters for your parish: A saint for the confessional — his compassionate approach to sinners and moral theology has direct bearing on how parishes think about reconciliation and mercy.
