August 21
St. Pius X
Pope from 1903 to 1914, Giuseppe Sarto lowered the age of First Communion to the age of reason, promoted frequent Communion, reformed the breviary, and commissioned the first codification of canon law. He died heartbroken at the outbreak of World War I. He is the patron saint of pilgrims.
Why it matters for your parish:
His reform of First Communion changed the devotional life of the entire Church. A natural content hook for parishes focused on sacramental catechesis and First Communion preparation.
