A Greek physician who became a companion of St. Paul and is the author of both the Gospel of Luke and the Acts of the Apostles — together comprising more of the New Testament than any other single author. Luke's Gospel gives the fullest account of the Nativity and alone records the Prodigal Son and Good Samaritan. He is the patron saint of physicians and artists.
