Sts. Simon and Jude

Two apostles: Simon the Zealot, suggesting a background in Jewish nationalism, and Jude Thaddaeus, author of the brief epistle bearing his name. Tradition holds they were martyred together in Persia. Jude's association with desperate causes makes him one of the most prayed-to saints.

Why it matters for your parish: A Feast celebrating two apostles, one of whom — Jude — may be the most prayed-to saint in the world for desperate causes. His feast is a high-devotion day for many Catholics.
