Saint Stanislaus

Bishop of Kraków and martyr, Stanislaus boldly confronted King Bolesław II of Poland over his cruelty and moral corruption, ultimately excommunicating him. When he reproached the king for his immoral life, the king himself killed him during Mass. Canonized by Pope Innocent IV in 1253, he is the patron saint of Poland and Kraków.

Why it matters for your parish: Stanislaus is remembered alongside Thomas Becket and Thomas More for denouncing corruption in government, making him one of the most compelling martyr stories for parishes reflecting on moral courage, prophetic witness, or speaking truth to power. Deeply resonant for Polish Catholic communities and powerful Easter season content since his feast often falls during that period.
