St. Athanasius

The fourth-century Bishop of Alexandria who spent his life defending the divinity of Christ against the Arian heresy, suffering five separate exiles totaling seventeen years — giving rise to the phrase "Athanasius contra mundum" (Athanasius against the world). His On the Incarnation is a foundational text of Christian theology. He is a Doctor of the Church.

Why it matters for your parish: The ultimate story of one man standing firm for truth against an overwhelming majority. His phrase "contra mundum" resonates across any context of countercultural faithfulness.
