St. Aloysius Gonzaga

A sixteenth-century Italian nobleman who renounced his inheritance to become a Jesuit novice and died at twenty-three while nursing plague victims in Rome. His purity and self-denial were extraordinary, and he was declared patron of youth by Pope Benedict XIII. He is the patron saint of youth and Catholic students.

Why it matters for your parish: The patron of Catholic youth and students, Aloysius is natural content for parishes with young adult or student ministries. His radical choice to abandon privilege for service challenges comfortable discipleship.
