St. James the Apostle

One of the Twelve and brother of St. John the Evangelist, James was among the three in Jesus's inner circle. He was the first apostle martyred, beheaded by Herod Agrippa around 44 AD. His supposed tomb in Santiago de Compostela, Spain has been one of the three great pilgrimage destinations of Christianity for over a thousand years.

Why it matters for your parish: A Feast and one of the most prominent apostles — his pilgrimage shrine is globally recognized. His martyrdom is the first of the Twelve recorded in Acts.
