A nineteenth-century French parish priest who nearly failed his seminary studies but became the most sought-after confessor in Europe, with pilgrims waiting hours to confess to him in the obscure village of Ars. He reportedly spent eighteen hours a day in the confessional and was visited by over one hundred thousand people in his final year. He is the patron saint of parish priests.
