St. Joseph

The husband of the Virgin Mary and foster father of Jesus, Joseph was a carpenter who protected the Holy Family and provided for Jesus's upbringing in faithful obscurity. Though he never speaks in the Gospels, his silent fidelity made him patron of the universal Church, declared by Pope Pius IX in 1870. He is also patron of workers, fathers, and a happy death.
