St. Lucy
A fourth-century Sicilian martyr whose name means "light" in Latin. Her feast falls near the winter solstice — the darkest days of the year — making her the saint of light. In Scandinavia her feast is celebrated with candlelit processions of girls in white robes. She is the patron saint of the blind.
