A sixteenth-century Italian priest known as the "Apostle of Rome" who won souls through humor, joy, and radical hospitality rather than severity. He founded the Congregation of the Oratory, created spiritual conferences that became a cultural institution, and was famous for his pranks and laughter. He is the patron saint of joy.
Why it matters for your parish:The patron of joy in a world that needs it — Philip Neri's approach to holiness through laughter and friendship is profoundly countercultural. Excellent for parishes wanting to communicate that faith is life-giving rather than dour.
