The twin sister of St. Benedict and the first Benedictine nun, Scholastica lived near Monte Cassino and met annually with her brother to discuss spiritual matters. According to St. Gregory the Great, she prayed through the night and a storm prevented Benedict from leaving — he died three days later and she followed him within the week. She is the patron saint of Benedictine nuns.
