The Nativity of St. John the Baptist

One of only three births celebrated in the liturgical calendar alongside Christmas and the Immaculate Conception, this Solemnity honors the forerunner of Christ who leaped in Elizabeth's womb at the greeting of Mary. John's entire life was ordered to one purpose: "He must increase, and I must decrease." He is the patron saint of converts and missionaries.

Why it matters for your parish: A Solemnity on a fixed date — one of only three births the Church celebrates. Excellent content for any summer newsletter. His message of radical self-emptying speaks to every disciple.
