St. Anselm

An eleventh-century Italian monk who became Archbishop of Canterbury and is considered the father of Scholasticism. He developed the ontological argument for God's existence and wrote Cur Deus Homo on the necessity of the Incarnation. Exiled twice by English kings for refusing to back down, he is a Doctor of the Church.
